Start of Summer Afterwork 2026 - Picnic
This year's Start of Summer Afterwork brought colleagues together to celebrate the beginning of summer in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
For the first time, parallel events were held at multiple DKFZ locations, with colleagues gathering in Heidelberg, Dresden, and Mainz. Each location organized its own local event while sharing the common goal of bringing people together beyond their daily work routines.
In Mainz, participants enjoyed a potluck picnic that encouraged everyone to contribute food and drinks, creating a diverse buffet and plenty of opportunities to connect. Although the weather forecast required a last-minute change from the planned BBQ to a picnic with an indoor backup option, the event was a great success and demonstrated the flexibility and team spirit of everyone involved.
Across all three locations, colleagues took the opportunity to meet new people, reconnect with familiar faces, and enjoy an informal summer afternoon together.
