MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship Brings Two Researchers to HI-TRON

Two researchers, Osbaldo Lopez-Charcas and Bilal Unal, have been awarded the highly competitive MSCA Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships. They will join the division led by Prof. Dr. Ugur Sahin, mRNA Cancer Immunotherapies, at HI-TRON Mainz, part of the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ).

The MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships rank among the most competitive research funding programs worldwide, with a success rate of approximately 9%. In this year’s call alone, more than 17,000 proposals were submitted across all disciplines. We are therefore especially proud that both fellows exceeded the funding threshold, reflecting the exceptional quality and impact of their proposed research.

Their applications were supported through the DKFZ MSCA Master Classes program, organized by the DKFZ Grants Office and the International Postdoc Programme, which provides structured guidance and proposal feedback throughout the application process.

We look forward to welcoming Osbaldo and Bilal to HI-TRON Mainz!

“This success reflects a true team effort. We sincerely thank the DKFZ Grants Office and International Postdoc Programme, especially Juan Pablo Rigalli and Aynur Kaya Copur, for their dedicated guidance and hands-on support throughout the entire process. We are very much looking forward to welcoming these exceptionally talented researchers to our team, and I am confident their work will contribute meaningfully to advancing next-generation mRNA-based cancer therapies."
Alexandra Alves Duarte, Deputy Head & Senior Scientist of the mRNA Cancer Immunotherapies Division
