Innovation Award for Prof. Dr. Stefan Tenzer
Advancing Cancer Immunotherapy with Cutting-Edge Proteomics
Prof. Dr. Stefan Tenzer has been honored as Inventor of the Year by the University Medical Center Mainz.
As Head of the Immunoproteomics Division at the Helmholtz Institute for Translational Oncology (HI-TRON) and Director of the Mass Spectrometry Core Facility, he has made significant contributions to the development of novel technologies that bridge fundamental immunology with clinical applications.
His research focuses on advancing mass spectrometry-based methods for protein analysis, enabling the detailed study of antigen processing and MHC-presented peptides. These insights are crucial for understanding immune responses and form the foundation for new cancer immunotherapies. His innovations have already led to several patent applications and are accelerating the development of personalized treatment strategies through high-throughput immunophenotyping.
The newly established Innovation Award was presented during the inaugural InnovationDay, recognizing his groundbreaking work and long-standing commitment to translational research. His most recent invention, now entering practical testing, optimizes the way mass spectrometers are controlled to generate highly precise and comprehensive datasets—essential for progress in cancer research.
Beyond his scientific achievements, Prof. Tenzer is also known for his interdisciplinary collaboration and passion for technology. His work continues to inspire new therapeutic approaches and highlights the impact of innovative thinking in modern medical science.
Congratulations to Prof. Dr. Tenzer for this well-earned recognition.
