A spotlight on..

the new building.

A New Home for Cutting-Edge Cancer Research

On the campus of the University Medical Center Mainz, a dedicated building for HI-TRON Mainz is under construction. Despite significant delays, the structural work finally began in February 2025. The completion of the new building is currently scheduled for December 2027, with researchers and staff expected to move in by February 2028. This state-of-the-art facility will provide the perfect environment for pioneering cancer research and innovative therapies.

New Building Progress Update

The construction site has seen significant development over the past months. In the early stages (February and March), groundwork and foundation activities were the primary focus, with excavation and concrete work in progress. By mid-March, the base level had been completed, and material deliveries were actively ongoing, supported by heavy machinery.

In the most recent update from May, the construction has progressed to the vertical structure phase. Several walls have been erected, and the internal layout is becoming visible. A tower crane is now in place, signaling the start of the next stage: vertical expansion and floor work. The site's surroundings also appear more organized, reflecting steady and efficient progress.

This marks a promising step forward in the development of the new building.

_____

As of June, the vertical structure continues to rise, with reinforced concrete walls and formwork systems clearly shaping the building’s ground floor, while workers prepare for further upward construction.

In early July, the construction has moved forward significantly. Vertical elements have extended beyond the ground level, and new sections of formwork are actively being assembled. Safety railings and scaffolding have been installed to support continued operations at height, and the site layout reflects careful coordination and planning. Preparations for upper floor slabs are well underway.

We are excited to witness the transformation of the site and look forward to the next milestones in this ambitious project.

The building has reached its third floor, with concrete walls, window openings, and safety railings in place. Formwork and exposed rebar on the top level show ongoing work for the next concrete pour.
The site reflects steady progress toward completing the structure.

Now in mid-September 2025, the building structure has reached the fourth visible floor, with window openings, scaffolding, and safety platforms established on all sides. While this already outlines the future building's shape, the structure has not yet reached its full planned height. Preparations are underway for additional upper floors, and construction continues with steady momentum. Internal work and façade preparations are also gradually beginning.

October 2025

The structural framework of the HI-TRON Mainz building is now largely complete, with all main floors and exterior walls in place. Window openings are fully defined, and the building’s shape is clearly recognizable. Concrete work continues on the upper sections, supported by construction equipment on-site. The project has entered the final phase of structural construction, paving the way for interior and façade work to begin next year.

November 2025

By November, the new building has grown so tall that it no longer fully fits into the frame of the webwatch camera. As a result, this month’s update features a night-time view of the structure — beautifully illuminated from within.

The image shows a five-story concrete building at night, illuminated from within by bright white lights shining through the windows. The construction site around the building is partially visible, with materials and equipment scattered along the ground.

The windows are still open, scaffolding is visible at the top, and construction materials are scattered around the fenced site.
